Brief With a timeframe of just six months, we were tasked with designing and deploying an entirely new retail concept for Microsoft stores, covering 26 counties across four continents.
Working closely with the brand team to choose colours and materials that aligned with the Microsoft aesthetic – and that were easy to source and manufacture globally – we went back to basic ergonomic principles and developed a new modular and flexible furniture system, adaptable enough to suit the variety of environments where the furniture would be located.
For counter surfaces we chose steel with a specialist architectural powder coating, due to its global availability and ease of manufacture. To complement this, and to match the Microsoft colour palette, we also used American oak veneer and clean white finishes.
The project was delivered on time and on budget, and saw 8396 pieces of furniture installed in operator outlets and kiosks, as well as the completion of 120 new standalone stores.
‘Sundae has an exceptional ability to visualize requirements and drive these through to the production and deployment stages.’
